Before to start renaming process, pay attention to the following:

It can occur after renaming if in-group Windows there will be a former name of the computer. To be convinced that connection with SQL Server with use of such groups Windows after renaming operation is possible, update group Windows for instructions of a new name of the computer.

 Connection to SQL Server by means of a new name of the computer becomes possible after restart SQL Server. To be convinced that system function @@ SERVERNAME returns a new name of a local copy of the server, it is necessary to execute manually the following procedure applied in the scenario of the user. Which procedure should execute, depends on, whether the called copy SQL Server or a copy by default is establishing on the computer.
